Know What Non-Transportable Items Are Prior to your Move

When you’re looking at moving a long distance, you will regularly find that you are going to need some professional help in getting to your destination. This is totally fine, as there are a ton of difficulties that rise up when you’re going from one city to another. And most of that doesn’t even cover the logistics of making sure you have a big enough truck to get everything there in as short of time as possible. However, long distance movers and local movers alike do have limits on what they can move themselves.

Anything that falls into a Hazardous Materials category cannot be moved by a long distance mover. The typical types of things that fall into that bucket include flammables, corrosives, or explosives. Some examples of these include:
  • Ammunition
  • Anti-freeze
  • Bleach
  • Charcoal Briquettes
  • Cleaning Chemicals
  • Fireworks
  • Gasoline
  • Lighters and Light Fluid
  • Oxygen Bottles
  • Paint and Paint Thinner
  • Propane Cylinders
  • Wood Stains
  • And anything else like these
When moving long distances, there are some things that a moving company CAN move, but it’s generally suggested that you handle them yourself. This would include a various number of things that have either real or intrinsic value to you or your family. This way you know that you’re keeping your precious items safe and sound regardless of which moving company that you go with. These items include things like:
  • Cash, Checks, and Credit Cards
  • Important Personal Papers
  • Jewelry and Precious Stones
  • Computer Programs, Documents, and Backups
  • Moving Documents
  • Firearms
  • Photo Albums
  • and anything else that means something big to you
By knowing what can and can’t be hauled by a moving company prior to your move date, you’ll be one step ahead of the game when it comes to packing up and preparing your household. If you find that you’re in need of help because the distance is greater than you can handle or you just have too much on your plate, be sure to give us a call. We’ll provide you with a free moving quote, and provide you with more details on what can and can’t be loaded onto a professional moving truck.

Best. Move. Ever!
Very pleased with the overall respect and care the men gave to my possessions. Even mailing me very quickly the only thing lost in transit. Would recommend to anyone needing a long distant move.
