4 Mistakes Not to Make When Packing for Your Office Move to Little Rock

Office Moving - Office RelocationPacking up your office seems like a straightforward task, right? Especially if you're fairly tidy, it appears like all you'd have to do is put your files in a box, your computer, monitor and mouse in another, load up the furniture, and you’re off and running. However, relocating your office from one place to another is often a lot harder than we tend to imagine it is. Fortunately, dodging these frequent errors when it is time to pack up your office can save you a decent amount of anxiety when moving to Little Rock.

Mistake #1: Not Enough Organization

No matter if you are moving yourself or have found a moving company to assist, the worst thing you can do when it's time to pack up is start without taking a moment to get appropriately organized. You might think you are ready because you penned a one word item detail on the side of the box, but what you need to do is plan what you are going to pack and in what order you're going to pack it. Then, you must clearly label what is is going into which box. Realistically, when you get your boxes loaded up, moved, and to their new business location, you are not going to remember which box contains your power cords, and which one contains your stapler in it. So, record a list on every box of what is in it to avoid digging, confusion, and some hysteria while you get set up again.

Mistake #2: Burying Things You Really Need

If you have ever moved your house, you might know that notion of finding the dishes you have not needed in ten years while unpacking, but not being able to uncover the shampoo and fresh clothes you must have for your morning routine. An office move can contain the same problem. That's why you need to pack up the things you are not going to need right away (such as your tax records from six years ago), and be sure they are loaded on the moving truck first. The items you will need soon (your desk, your computer, your printer, etc.) should all be packed up last so they're the first things you unload off the truck. This process helps negate your downtime, and helps you get right back to work once you arrive at your new office.

Mistake #3: Not Using a Timeline or a Checklist

Moving an office to Little Rock is a process that has a tendency to happen accumulatively, which is why it is important to put in place the correct tools to track your progress. You should have a timeline mapped out to plan how long it will take to box up your stuff, how long it will consume to move it, how long it will take to unpack, and then how long it will take to get everything set back up. The timeline must have some room in it for problems, and it needs to be supplemented with a checklist so you can mark off tasks as they're finished. If you plan to hire a professional moving company, they should aid you with this part. Winging it isn't a doable alternative for an office move.

Mistake #4: Bringing Stuff You Don't Need to Little Rock

Moving your office is an opportunity to start over, and to put your best foot forward. But, a lot of people wind up just moving everything with them, no matter if they really need it. That's why, before you even think about packing, you should sift through all of your stuff in your office and ask if it needs to move to the new location. That broken hole punch that you replaced and were storing in the event that you could get it fixed? Do not clutter up your new office with it. The stack of old, but still decent, routers you stuck away in the event of an I.T. emergency? Well, if they are some years old, they are probably antiquated. That pack of musty paper that does not fit anyone's printer? Recycle it or give it to an employee for their children to scribble on. The more items you can get rid of (including digitizing old records so the paper copies are not needed) the more carefree your move will be.
