Relocation Depression is a Real Thing

Serious conversation here. Moving to Little Rock to a new home is stressful in the ideal scenario. You're leaving your residence--where you have made a life for yourself along with your family members--and beginning once again in a foreign area. Sure, the move alone is intriguing--an adrenaline rush which goes on for months as you find a new house, pack up the old one, and get settled with your loved ones in their new schedules. 
 
However soon after the boxes are unpacked and you have determined the perfect route to the dry cleaners, the new reality sets in--you are in a new place, and your good friends and social life are back in your old area--the spot you continue to think of as "home". And everything appears awry--there's a sense of being misplaced, and you are unsure if it's an actual or mental place, but it is just not right. It is not home.

These kind of symptoms can be more than the post-move blues. It's possible that you may have something referred to as "relocation depression". Relocation depression is indeed a thing--the beginning is after pretty much all the hubbub of the move dissipates--and needs to be given serious attention and addressed in case you can't get rid of it by yourself.  

Indicators to Look out for

These are typically several of the warning signs to look out for, the occurrence of some of these in a couple of week period signifies it's time to acquire some professional help. 

You Can't Get Out of Bed 

And when you do, you're lethargic and really do not have the energy to get through the day. Sleeplessness is an additional symptom of depression; you are worn out all the time, nevertheless you can't get to sleep. Or you are able to sleep--a dozen hours at a stretch and you will be still tired. 

Absence of Interest in Anything 

In your former home or city, you had your schedule along with your stuff--work, buddies, hobbies--that filled your days. Currently, you have work, however your friends didn't come along with you and it's tough to be pumped up about your interests if, like a third-grader, you do not have anyone to play with. Adults needs pals too, so do not feel bad or remorseful that you're a little lonely. 

In the event you just cannot get interested in anything--hobbies, your job, finding new friends, interacting with family--likelihood is it's really a symptom of depression. Social networking can be a double-edged sword as it enables you to stay informed about buddies, but it can also aid and abet in your keeping in rather than finding new friends.  

How to Combat Relocation Depression

There are certain things that can be done to remove the fog, so try these and pay attention to if you feel better. 

Get Some Exercise--Active individuals feel better, so get out and just walk around the block a couple of times every day. If you have a dog this can be a built-in justification to get outside. Expand that outdoors time every day. 

Decrease or Do away with Alcohol--This is a depressant, so it will be best to refrain from it until you are feeling better. 

Connect with People--Take a class or enroll in a newcomers group. Volunteer--extra hands and skills are always welcome. Just one or two new acquaintances creates a huge difference. 

Check out Something New--Go to museums, coffee shops, theater, restaurants--explore your new area and get to know it. Staying busy is like exercise--it keeps the adrenaline moving along and you should have much more energy. 

In the event that these home cures do not help, look for a professional. Relocation depression isn't a joke, and not dealt with, may get out of hand into something even more serious. You know yourself better than anyone, and if things are not quite right, pay attention to your body and mind. Moving to Little Rock is among life's most stressful events, nevertheless it doesn't have to be a cause for gloominess or depression.
